DESCRIPTION:  \nWhen learning a new language\, it is inevitable to sometimes get lost in translation. My beginnings in French were quite hilarious and often embarrassing\, but at least it made me giggle. I remember that at first\, I used to think that the “hôtel de ville” was a hotel chain\, like Marriott\, Hilton\, Barceló\, etc. \nDid you know that Québec City is among the top ten of the snowiest cities in Canada?  One of the recommendations that you will often hear is “check the forecast daily” and with all due reason\, especially in the winter. It is important though to learn the vocabulary and expressions associated with the natural phenomena\, which is why VEQ in collaboration with Canadian Parents for French is organising this fun game night. \nAt the end of the game\, the winner of the game will get an electronic $30 gift card. DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, Oct. 28\, VEQ is organising a guide tour to the National Assembly. The National Assembly of Quebec  is Québec’s legislative body. All legislative measures in the province are approved or rejected here\, which is why it is important to learn and understand its proceedures. \nThe guided tour\, in English\, will last for 60 minutes\, but the security screening takes around 30 minutes prior le tour\, so do factor arriving at least 30 minutes earlier. \n\nMeeting place: in front of the Tourny fountain.\nMetting time: Please arrive between 10:15 and 10:30 a.m. as it takes about 30 minutes to go through the security screening\n\n\n  \nSchedule: \n10:15 – 10:30 a.m.    Arrive at the National Assembly. We will meet in front of the Tourny Fountain. \n10:30 – 11:15 a.m.    Security screening. DESCRIPTION:Are you new to Quebec City and looking for something fun to do? The Voice of English-speaking Quebec invites you for a fun-filled evening at the Newcomers Free Sunset Ferry Ride on Wednesday\, August 23 from 5:40 to 8:30 PM. \nWe will ride the ferry to Quai Paquet in Lévis that leaves at 5:40 PM. Once there\, we can grab some food or some ice cream (or both!) from the food trucks available or from the ice cream shop located one block away from the quai\, while getting to know each other! We will be returning on the 8:00 PM ferry (to Quebec).  We will bring board games to facilitate your interaction with others. At the quai\, there are 160 water jets\, perfect to refresh you\, so make sure you bring or wear your sandals or why not your swimsuit! If you are an avid photographer\, you can also check out the Red stairs (193 steps) located two blocks away from the quai\, and admire the beauty of the view from atop. There is also a café near the quai\, not far from the ice cream shop. Feeling like picknicking? By all means\, bring your own snacks and a picnic blanket or portable chairs! \nThe fees for the ferry ride are covered for participants and the event is open to all English-speaking newcomers living in the Greater Quebec City region. DESCRIPTION:Don’t ruin your appetite! We are going to Sucrerie Blouin to savour a scrumptious québecois brunch! \n  \nVEQ will provide transportation from its offices to the sugar shack (in Île d’Orléans) and back to the office. We are scheduled to arrive at 10:45 AM and meals will be served at 11:30 AM. \nUpon arrival\, you can visit some of the animals found on their small farm or ride the cart pulled by a horse to tour the property and learn how maple syrup is produced. \nAre you ready to live one of the most memorable local traditions?! \n \n  \nSchedule: \nThe bus (free of cost) will leave VEQ’s offices at 10:00 AM. Our offices are located at 1270\, chemin Sainte-Foy. Participants riding the bus are encouraged to arrive 10-15 minutes before the departure time. \nArrival at Sucrerie Blouin in Île d’Orléans at 10:45 AM. \nFrom 10:45 AM to 11:30 AM participants can tour the premises or engage in one of the activities/games planned by María Castro. \n11:30 AM: Brunch is served. Each table can seat 8-10 people. The service is all-you-can-eat style (à volonté in French). \nAfter the brunch\, everyone is invited to try making their own maple syrup snow candy (maple taffy). \n1:30 PM: The bus returns to VEQ’s offices. \nThe menu usually consists of a of pea soup as a starter\, followed by a variety of delicious traditional dishes such as baked ham\, omelette or scrambled eggs\, sausages\, tourtière (the famous meat pie)\, baked beans\, cretons (a kind of pork pâté)\, crepes\, bread\, and pork rinds. Yummy!
